Hallettsville set to play Ponder on Friday

Hallettsville will make its first appearance at the UIL state basketball tournament against the two-time defending Class 2A state champions.
The Brahmas (36-1) will play Ponder (35-4) in a semifinal game on Friday at 10 a.m. at the Erwin Center in Austin. New Waverly (32-3) will play Idalou (29-6) in the other semifinal at 8:30 a.m.
The winners will advance to the final on Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Erwin Center.
"There's not any weak ones at the state tournament," said Hallettsville coach Rich Dozier.
The Brahmas made their first trip to the Region IV-2A tournament in Seguin a successful one. Hallettsville beat defending regional champion Santa Rosa 63-55 in the semifinal and defeated San Antonio Cole 62-60 in the final.
