San Antonio Brackenridge Eagles at Victoria West Warriors
Last year: Did not play.
Notes: Coach Leonard McAngus and West (0-0) open the season with the first of 10 straight games, starting with Brackenridge (0-1), which finished last season with a 9-2 record, but lost two key offensive players. Brackenridge suffered a 43-14 loss to Class 3A San Antonio Sam Houston last week. The key offensive threat will be 6-foot-7 receiver Gabriel Taylor. West will be starting Kyle Motal at quarterback with Jared Dolezal sidelined with an injury.

Victoria East Titans at Kingsville Brahmas
Last year: Did not play.
Notes: East (1-0) is coming off a 76-35 win over Class 5A Harlingen South. East had three rushers with more than 100 yards and a total of eight rushing touchdowns. Starting quarterback Ervin Yates amassed 292 total yards and was 10-for-14 passing. Kingsville didn't lose any key players to graduation last year, but went through a coaching change at the end of last season after a third consecutive 4-6 finish.

Corpus Christi Ray Texans at Calhoun Sandcrabs
Last year: Calhoun, 42-28.
Notes: Calhoun (1-0) faces former district opponent Ray (0-1) in its home opener. Calhoun won both district games against Ray. Calhoun began the season with 22-8 win over Flour Bluff. Ray dropped a 49-41 decision to Corpus Christi Carroll. Calhoun rushed for 347 yards and Jeremy Loya rushed for 138 yards and one touchdown.

St. Joseph Flyers at Schulenburg Shorthorns
Last year: St. Joseph, 41-13.
Notes: St. Joseph (1-0) and Schulenburg (1-0) meet for the seventh consecutive season. Schulenburg holds a 4-2 edge during that span. St. Joseph opened the season with a 28-21 win over San Antonio TMI. Schulenburg defeated Van Vleck 33-12. St. Joseph's Ryan Longoria passed for 194 yards and four touchdowns, and Hayden Vesely had four receptions for 97 yards and two touchdowns. Schulenburg's Kyle Bludau passed for 119 yards and one touchdown and passed for 171 yards and three touchdowns, and Jacob Langhamer had four receptions for 37 yards and one touchdown and returned an interception 30 yards.
Houston Yates Lions at Bay City Blackcats
Last year: Yates, 27-16.
Notes: Bay City (0-1) returns to Memorial Stadium where it lost to Sweeny 14-7 in its season opener last week. Yates (1-0) began the season with a 30-19 win over Houston Washington. Bay City's Derek Brown passed for 194 yards and one touchdown.

El Campo Ricebirds at Houston Westside Wolves
Last year: El Campo, 24-15.
Notes: El Campo (1-0) goes on the road to play Westside (0-0), which had a bye last week. El Campo opened the season with a 21-7 win over Waller. El Campo has won two straight over Westside and 19 of its previous 20 non-district games. El Campo's D'Vonte Wells rushed for 101 yards and one touchdown.

Liberty Hill Panthers at Cuero Gobblers
Last year: Did not play.
Notes: Cuero (0-1) had its 33-game home winning streak end in a 49-42 season-opening loss to Wimberley. Liberty Hill defeated Leander Rouse 34-14. Cuero hasn't started a season with two losses since 2002. Liberty Hill ended Cuero's regular-season winning streak with a 49-35 win in Liberty Hill in 2007. Cuero defeated Liberty Hill 31-27 the last time the teams played in Cuero in 2006. Liberty Hill went on to win the Division II state championship that season. Cuero's Mason Blaschke passed for 182 yards and two touchdowns and Trent Jackson rushed for 126 yards and two touchdowns.

Yoakum Bulldogs at La Grange Leopards
Last year: La Grange, 26-0.
Notes: Yoakum (1-0) and La Grange (1-0) play for the eighth time since 2000. La Grange holds a 5-2 advantage during that span. Yoakum had less than 100 yards of total offense but took a 7-6 win over Columbus last week. La Grange captured a 16-6 win over Lockhart.

Gonzales Apaches at Luling Eagles
Last year: Did not play.
Notes: Gonzales (1-0) and Luling (0-1) last played in 2007 with Gonzales claiming a 24-6 win. Gonzales rolled to a 53-14 season-opening win over Corpus Christi Miller. Luling lost 45-0 to Navarro. Gonzales' Evan Owens passed for 201 yards and four touchdowns, Mark Hastings rushed for 181 yards and one touchdown, and Kedrick Cray had six receptions for 161 yards and three touchdowns.

Palacios Sharks at Tidehaven Tigers
Last year: Palacios, 19-12.
Notes: Palacios (0-1) travels to El Maton to play Matagorda County rival Tidehaven (0-0) for the 30th time since 1980. Palacios holds a 17-11-2 edge during that span. Palacios lost its season opener to Boling 45-10. Tidehaven did not play last week.
Wharton Tigers at Smithville Tigers
Last year: Smithville 28-12.
Notes: Wharton (0-1) seeks to end a two-game losing streak against Smithville (0-1). Wharton opened the season with a 40-28 loss to Brookshire Royal. Smithville lost to Lexington 60-0. Wharton's Andrew Cruz ran for two touchdowns and passed for one against Royal.
Goliad Tigers at George West Longhorns
Last year: George West, 26-19.
Notes: Goliad (1-0) and George West (1-0) meet for the 13th consecutive season. George West holds a 7-5 edge during that time frame. Goliad opened the season with a 42-26 win over San Antonio Cole. George West defeated Three Rivers 20-15. Goliad's Timmy Flores passed for 282 yards and four touchdowns and Kaid Brand had six receptions for 132 yards and three touchdowns.
Industrial Cobras at Ganado Indians
Last year: Industrial, 37-7.
Notes: Jackson County rivals Industrial (1-0) and Ganado (1-0) play for the ninth consecutive season. Ganado holds a 5-3 edge during that span. Industrial opened the season with a 21-0 win over Shiner, a district opponent of Ganado. Ganado captured a 35-2 win over Hallettsville, a district opponent of Industrial. Ganado's Josh Labay rushed for 154 yards and two touchdowns. Industrial rushed for 218 yards against Shiner.

Hallettsville Brahmas at Refugio Bobcats
Last year: Refugio, 27-13.
Notes: Hallettsville (0-1) and No. 2 Refugio (1-0) meet for the fifth straight season. Refugio has won the previous four games by a combined 27 points. Refugio stretched its regular-season winning streak to 32 games with a 50-28 season-opening victory over No. 10 Rice Consolidated. Hallettsville turned the ball over six times and lost 35-2 to Ganado. Refugio's Shiloh Whetsel rushed for 142 yards and one touchdown and Draigon Silvas rushed for 101 yards and two touchdowns.

Rice Consolidated Raiders at Somerset Bulldogs

Notes: Rice Consolidated (0-1) looks to bounce back from its 50-28 season-opening loss to Refugio that knocked it out of the Class 2A top 10. Class 3A Somerset (1-0) outscored San Antonio Holy Cross 48-42. Rice Consolidated and Somerset will be the DQ Game of the Week. Rice Consolidated's Myles Dumont passed for 169 yards and two touchdowns. Somerset's Stevie Dorman passed for 305 yards and five touchdowns.
Louise Hornets at Van Vleck Leopards
Last year: Did not play.
Notes: Van Vleck (0-1) and Louise (0-1) last met in 2001 when they were district opponents and the last year Louise was a Class 2A school. Van Vleck won that game 38-6. Van Vleck opened the season with a 33-12 loss to Schulenburg. Louise dropped a 26-13 decision to Danbury.
Marion Bulldogs at Karnes City Badgers
Last year: Did not play.
Notes: Karnes City (1-0) and Marion (0-1) play for the first time since 2005. Marion won that game 25-13. Karnes City opened the season with a 56-2 shellacking of Karnes County rival Kenedy. Marion lost 42-23 to Poth, a district opponent of Karnes City. Karnes City's Clayton Labus passed for 196 yards and five touchdowns and Jeremy Purser had four solo tackles, six assists, one interception, one sack, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery and two quarterback hurries.
Nixon-Smiley Mustangs at Bloomington Bobcats
Last year: Nixon-Smiley (1-0) and Bloomington (0-1) meet for the first time since 2005 when they were district opponents. Nixon-Smiley won that game 43-0. Nixon-Smiley opened the season with a 21-7 win over Flatonia, equaling its win total of last season. Bloomington lost to Woodsboro 46-7.
Concordia Lutheran Crusaders at Boling Bulldogs
Last year: Did not play.
Notes: Class 2A Boling (1-0) opened the season with a 45-10 win over Class 3A Palacios. Concordia Lutheran defeated Houston St. John's 28-25. Boling is attempting to start a season with two wins for the first time since 2006.
Houston Christian Mustangs at East Bernard Brahmas
Last year: Houston Christian, 21-14.
Notes: East Bernard (1-0) and Houston Christian (0-) meet for the fifth straight season. East Bernard had won three straight until last season. East Bernard rolled to a 55-0 season-opening win over Stafford. Houston Christian did not play. East Bernard's Zach Castillo rushed for 123 yards and two touchdowns and Jermaine Perkins rushed for 100 yards and one touchdown.
Shiner Comanches at Brazos Cougars
Last year: Shiner, 28-13.
Notes: Class 1A Shiner (0-1) and Class 2A Brazos (0-1) meet for the fifth straight season. The teams have split the previous four games. Shiner suffered a 21-0 season-opening loss to Industrial. Brazos lost 63-7 to Houston Second Baptist. Shiner's Evel Jones rushed for 108 yards.
Agua Dulce Longhorns at Yorktown Wildcats
Last year: Did not play.
Notes: Yorktown (0-1) and Agua Dulce (0-1) play for the first time since 2003. Yorktown won that game 58-8. Yorktown lost its season opener against Hallettsville Sacred Heart 26-19. Agua Dulce lost 22-21 to Kingsville Academy. Yorktown's Erin Barefield rushed for 127 yards and one touchdown.
Flatonia Bulldogs at Hallettsville Sacred Heart Indians
Last year: Flatonia, 33-14.
Notes: Flatonia (0-1) and Sacred Heart (1-0) have split their last eight games. Sacred Heart opened the season with a 26-19 win over Yorktown. Flatonia lost to Nixon-Smiley 21-7. Sacred Heart's Kyle Rother rushed for 147 yards and two touchdowns.
Pettus Eagles at Kenedy Lions
Last year: Kenedy, 33-17.
Notes: Kenedy (0-1) and Pettus (0-1) play for the seventh consecutive season. Kenedy owns a 4-2 edge during that span. Kenedy opened the season with a 56-2 loss to Karnes City. Pettus lost 37-31 to Shiner St. Paul in its season opener.
Woodsboro Eagles at Riviera Seahawks
Last year: Did not play.
Notes: Woodsboro (1-0) and Riviera (1-0) play for the first time since 1989. Woodsboro won that game 3-0. Woodsboro rolled to a 46-7 season-opening win over Bloomington. Riviera captured a 35-14 win over Bishop.
Kingsville Academy Pride at Runge Yellowjackets
Last Year: Did not play.
Notes: Runge (1-0) and Kingsville Academy (1-0) are coming off successful season openers. Runge beat San Antonio Brooks Academy 54-14 and Kingsville Academy edged Agua Dulce 22-21. Runge is trying to start a season with two wins for the first time since 2004.
San Antonio Cornerstone Warriors at Shiner St. Paul Cardinals
Last year: St. Paul, 45-27.
Notes: St. Paul (1-0) goes for its third straight win over Cornerstone (0-1). St. Paul opened the season with a 37-31 win over Pettus. Cornerstone lost to D'Hanis 62-16. St. Paul's Devin Pesek passed for 221 yards and four touchdowns, Adam Hollenbach rushed for 106 yards and one touchdown, and Brandon Sciba has six receptions for 96 yards and one touchdown.
