The oil boom in South Texas has had an impact on the coaching profession.
Brad Vickers has resigned as the athletic director and head football coach at Woodsboro to take a sales position with an energy firm.
"We're sorry to see him go," said Steven Self, superintendent of the Woodsboro school district. "But he has a chance to make a lot of money."
Vickers was at Woodsboro for five seasons and had an overall record of 16-37.
The Eagles advanced to the bi-district playoffs three times during his tenure.
This year's team went 2-8 and 2-4 in District 16-1A, Division II and had a chance to qualify for the playoffs heading into its final game.
Vickers was an assistant coach at East Bernard, Lockhart, Carrizo Springs and Gregory-Portland before taking the Woodsboro job.
"Brad is an outstanding guy," Self said. "He's a builder of people. Every sport made the playoffs while he was here."
Woodsboro will accept applications for a new athletic director and head football coach through Jan. 27.
Self said the school district will wait until after the University Interscholastic League's reclassification and realignment is released before hiring Vickers' replacement.
