REFUGIO - Refugio ended the regular season as the No. 1 Class 2A team in The Associated Press state poll.
The Bobcats won the District 16-2A, Division II title and had a 10-0 record.
Voters selecting the Texas Associated Press Sports Editors Class 2A all-state team took notice.
The Bobcats had five players named to the first team and one to the second team, including the offensive and defensive players of the year on the squad, which was released Monday.
Sophomore quarterback Travis Quintanilla, senior receiver Lynx Hawthorne and junior lineman John Wesley Shipp earned first-team honors on offense.
Senior lineman Donald Trevino and senior linebacker Jake Heryford were chosen to the first-team defense.
Senior running back Shiloh Whetsel was picked for the second-team offense.
Quintanilla, who passed for 2,736 yards and 41 touchdowns with only three interceptions during the regular season, was named as the offensive player of the year.
"I didn't think I was going to be like I was," Quintanilla admitted. "At the end of the year, I improved for myself and the team. I never gave up as a quarterback. I just try to do what people do and that's it."
Trevino, who had 116 tackles, including 75 solo stops and 13 tackles for losses, two sacks and seven forced fumbles, was named the defensive player of the year.
"I really wasn't looking to get all-state," Trevino said. "I was really looking to going to state with my team. I still want to win a ring."
Edna senior Mac Long, who has committed to Houston, was named to the first team on the offensive line.
Schulenburg senior Kyle Bludau was a second-team selection at quarterback and earned honorable mention as a punter.
Also earning honorable mention were Rice Consolidated's Jared Kaster on the offensive line and Cristian Samaniego at kicker, Edna's Devin Parks at running back and Industrial's Jake DeLaGarza at linebacker.

Why didn't any East Bernard players make these teams?
The Brahmas went to the regional quarterfinals
Its only the daily newspapers who are with the AP that get to vote
The weekly or twice a week papers should be able to vote too
It's an injustice

Oh my lord, you want some half twit from a small town newspaper who couldn't make it anywhere else or didn't care, and would rather do stories on Betty sue's botonical wonder, to have a vote.
I don't know who you are or where you live. But your out of touch.
