Schulenburg's Leah Mikesky is headed to Florida State on a volleyball scholarship after a memorable senior season.

She led the area with 752 kills and added 498 digs, 109 aces and 79 blocks to help lead the Lady Horns into the regional semifinals and finish with a 35-8 record.

Mikesky was named the District 28-2A MVP and the MVP of the Advocate's all-area team.

Mikesky can add another honor after being selected as a first-team outside hitter on the Texas Sports Writers Association's Class 2A all-state team.

Mikesky was the area's lone first-team selection. Yoakum's Ashton Henkes was named a Class 3A second-team middle blocker, and Flatonia's Leanna Dunk was chosen as a Class 1A second-team middle blocker.

Victoria West's Brooke Smith was named to the Class 4A third team as a middle blocker, and Yoakum's Ryan Hagan was picked as a Class 3A third-team libero.

Smith, a senior who will play at the University of Houston next season, was selected as the Offensive Player of the Year on the Advocate's all-area team. Smith had 375 kills for the Warriors, who advanced to the regional semifinals.

Henkes, a senior, was a first-team selection on the all-area team. She had 404 kills and 134 blocks for the Lady Bulldogs, who advanced to the area playoffs.

Hagan had 52 aces and 460 digs and was an honorable mention selection on the all-area team.

Dunk, a senior, was a second-team all-area pick and helped Flatonia advance to the regional semifinals.

West libero Sara Hermes, Victoria East outside hitters Kelsea Kalich and Morgan Lienemann, and Calhoun middle blocker Melina Ortiz and outside hitter Sage Sexton received honorable mention on the Class 4A team.

Yoakum outside hitter Lesley Seidenberger and setter Camiel DeSmet earned honorable mention on the Class 3A team.

Schulenburg setter Shannon Mikesky and libero Kristin Moring received honorable mention on the Class 2A team.

Shiner outside hitter Laneshia Hunt, setter Cassie Stafford and libero Ryan Michalec and Flatonia setter Alexandra Bruns and libero Courtney Mica earned honorable mention on the Class 1A team.
