East's Houng earns district newcomer honors

Victoria East's Kaylee Houng was selected as co-Female Newcomer of the Year on the District 30-4A team tennis all-district team released Tuesday.

Houng, a freshman, shared the honor with Floresville's Haley Wares.

Calhoun's Jeffery Kubena was chosen as co-Male Newcomer of the Year. He shared the honor with Floresville's Julian Gonzales.

Victoria West's Victoria Keller was named to the second-team in girls singles and was also selected to the second team in mixed doubles with her brother Jacob Keller.

Calhoun's Kubena earned second-team honors in boys singles, and Calhoun's Tori Crenshaw was a second-team pick in girls singles.

Earning honorable mention were East's Quincy Davis, Teresa Wang and Kyle Hardegree, West's Jakub Najman, Richard Leos and Nicole Oliver, and Calhoun's James Hsu, Allysa Flores, and Melissa Rangel.

Gregory-Portland's Jake Katz was the boys MVP, and Floresville's Madison Pollok was the girls MVP.
