2012 BOYS SOCCER TEAM
Kevin Flores
Left wing, El Campo
The junior provided a constant threat on either wing for the Ricebirds. Though they missed qualifying for the playoffs, he was El Campo's most threatening player all season.
Cole Fimbel
Center forward, Victoria East
When the Titans needed a goal, Fimbel was there. In addition to the quantity and quality of his goals, the senior had a knack for timing.
Fabian Salazar
Right wing, Victoria West
The senior scored the game-winning goal March 30 when the Warriors won their first playoff game in school history. He added nearly 10 goals.
Jesus Hernandez
Midfield, Palacios
The senior was the District 47-4A Most Valuable Player and the key creative catalyst for a team that made the playoffs for the third time in his four-year varsity career.
Casey Brown
Midfield, Victoria East
He was the glue of a Titan midfield that continued to shift from a 4-4-2 to a 4-3-3 system. His service on corner kicks led to many key goals - including one in the Titans 2-1 victory to win the District 59-4A championship.
Joel Gonzales
Midfield, Victoria East
Moved from defense to defensive midfielder and helped the Titans maintain possession in a way that almost resembled a metronome.
Juan Contreras
Defender, Palacios
Was a defender for a team that qualified for the playoffs for the third time in four years.
Korey Parks
Defender, Victoria West
The Warriors frequently played with one less defender than their opponents. This meant Parks' responsibilities were magnified. West still posted nine shutouts this season and Parks was a big reason for that.
Eric Mansker
Defender, Victoria East
The Titans allowed just 17 goals in 24 games. Mansker, as a central defender was the one constant in the East defense.
David Andrade
Defender, Victoria East
The junior was part of a nearly impenetrable defense for the Titans.
Ricky Stratmann
Goalkeeper, Victoria East
His performance in Tuesday's 1-0 loss to Pharr Valley View would have warranted the position on its own. But, the sophomore was a big reason East allowed more than one goal just twice in the entire season.
2012 GIRLS SOCCER TEAM
Amanda Groenhuyzen
St. Joseph, forward
The junior scored 21 goals in 15 games to lift the Flyers into the playoffs. Her goal-scoring prowess lifted St. Joseph from a 2-5 start.
Madison McDonald
Bay City, forward
Not only is she a great interview, the junior forward's movement made her a threat all over the field to tune of 7 goals and 7 assists. Her seven goals and seven assists attest to that.
Rachel Schumacher
Bay City, midfield
The junior winger deservedly won the District 47-4A MVP after scoring 23 goals and adding 11 assists for the district champions.
Rachel Mansker
Victoria East, midfield
The sophomore captain led the team in scoring with 19 goals. By the time goalkeepers in South Texas realized the potency of her right foot, they were usually picking the ball out of the net.
Kristin Sontheimer
St. Joseph, midfield
She provided 10 goals and 11 assists as the key creative component of the Flyers' midfield. When she and Groenhuyzen were on their game, few TAPPS teams could top the Flyers.
Anhila Rocha
Victoria West, midfield
Rocha nabbed a hat trick in her second varsity game and didn't stop scoring. She played forward for most of the season, but the freshman is still more comfortable as a central midfielder - so that's where we'll put her.
Bryana Frazer
Victoria West, defender
Her selflessness was a big reason why West made the playoffs under first year head coach James McCarter. Frazier is a midfielder, but moved to stopper when injuries and other circumstances nearly derailed the season.
Kendyl Charbula
Victoria East, defender
There was a time central defenders at East spent more time with trainer Jessie Holmes instead of head coach Misty Boenig. Not only did the freshman remain healthy the entire season, she anchored a defense that constantly improved throughout 2012.
Darian Caffee
Victoria West, defender
One of the hardest things to do in soccer is be a left defender that is right footed. The junior was an absolute dynamo on the left side of the Warriors' defense. It was not a coincidence that West did not allow too many attacks, or goals from the left side of the field.
Karina Clements
Bay City, defender
She was the last defender on a Lady Cats team that allowed 22 goals in 18 games. When one considers 10 of those goals were conceded at the season-opening Crossroads Classic, the accomplishment is all the more striking.
Kelsey Ferry
Victoria East, goalkeeper
An aggressive player who used her positioning and athleticism to save the Titans on many an occasion. Posting a shutout in her first playoff game was just an indicator of her talent.
