Harrison impressive for Warriors in season opener

Senior pitcher Seth Harrison may not be the ace of the Victoria West rotation, but he did deliver on the opening night of the season.

Harrison struck out seven Bay City Blackcats in five innings and allowed just one hit as the Warriors opened the season with a 2-1 win over the Blackcats on Tuesday at Riverside Stadium.

Brooks Bynum and Aaron Kuester added RBI singles in the second and third innings while Zachary Valenzuela held off a late Blackcat rally to help West start the season 1-0.

Harrison opened the game by striking out six of the first eight batters he faced and didn't get into any trouble until the top of the third.

After allowing a single and a pair of walks, Harrison struck out Brandon Tomek to end the only serious Bay City threat through the first six innings.

Harrison got the start on opening night since Miles Manning, the ace of the Warriors rotation, was in Seguin playing for the boys basketball team in a bi-district playoff game.

Harrison along with Austin Davis and Zachary Valenzuel held Bay City to two hits in seven innings.

Left fielder Chance Muskiet got the Blackcats going in the bottom of the seventh when he hit a double off Davis into the right-center field gap.

Muskiet advanced to second on a wild pitch then scored on a passed ball.

Valenzuela entered the game in relief for Davis and struck out both Randy Volkner and Aaron Smith swinging to end the game.

Harrison and Jayce Serrano scored the two Warrior runs and five different Warriors got hits against Bay City.
