TOP PROSPECTS: The Crossroads Division I football commitments

Signing Day promises to be a banner day for several Crossroads prep football players, and possibly more as Wednesday, Feb. 1, approaches. There are eight Division-I commitments in the area, and more agreeing to play at Division II, Division III and junior college programs. possibly more to come in the next few days. Here's a rundown of the Division I commitments in the area:



NICK McCRORY, CALHOUN

Committed to Navy

• TSWA first-team LB, APSE first-team LB

• Defensive Player of the Year Advocate all-area team; District 30-4A MVP

• 145 tackles, 19 for losses, 12 sacks, 2 interceptions, 6 blocked kicks, 6 defensive TDs



LYNX HAWTHORNE, REFUGIO

Signed with Baylor

• 15-0, Class 2A, Division II state champions

• Texas Football Class 2A Player of the Year

• TSWA first-team all-state at WR; APSE first-team all-state at WR

• First-team WR Advocate all-area team; District 16-2A, Div. II, first-team SE

• 73 catches, 1,776 yards, 26 TDs

• Graduated midyear; already attending classes at Baylor



JOEY HUNT, EL CAMPO

Committed to TCU

• TSWA second-team all-state at OT; TSWA thirdteam all-state at DT

• APSE honorable mention all-state at OT

• Lineman of the Year Advocate all-area team; District 23-4A first-team OL/DL

• 32 pancake blocks, no sacks allowed; 75 tackles, 15 tackles for losses, 5 sacks, 3 fumble recoveries



DEREK BROWN, BAY CITY

Committed to Rice

• TSWA honorable mention QB

• First-team Athlete Advocate all-area team; District 23-4A Utility Player of the Year

• 101-197 passes, 1,500 yards, 11 TDs, 6 Ints

• 140 carries, 692 yards, 7 TDs; 12 catches, 302 yards, 2 TDs



DEVIN PARKS, EDNA

Committed to Houston

• TSWA second-team all-state at RB

• APSE honorable-mention all-state at RB

• First-team RB Advocate all-area team; District 14-2A, Div. I Offensive MVP

• 154 carries, 1,837 yards, 25 TDs; 15 catches, 459 yards, 3 TDs; 7 punt returns, 160 yards; 5 kickoff returns, 129 yards, 1 TD• Class 2A 100-meter dash champion



DANIEL BROOKS, CALHOUN

Committed to Oklahoma

• First-team DB Advocate all-area team

• District 30-4A first-team RB

• 96 carries, 1,305 yards, 11 TDs

• Class 3A 100-meter dash champion at Rockdale• Returned to Rockdale to graduate



JARED KASTER, RICE CONS.

Committed to Texas Tech

• TSWA third-team all-state at C

• APSE honorable-mention all-state at C

• First-team C Advocate all-area team

• District 14-2A, Div. I first-team C

• Graded 90 percent, 45 pancake blocks



MAC LONG, EDNA
