Tiffany Castillo's competitive juices start flowing anytime she steps on the field.
Castillo was having a good time playing in the Crossroads High School All-Star Game, but she also wanted to win.
"It's fun," the Calhoun graduate said. "I like competition so I go at it hard."
Castillo hit a solo home run and had two RBIs to lead the Black team to a 9-6 win over the Blue team on Saturday night at the O'Connor Athletic Complex.
"At the beginning it's fun," said Daniel Castillo, Tiffany's father and her head coach at Calhoun. "But they're seniors and they all want to win the last game and I get competitive with them."
Castillo will play at Sam Houston State with her older sister, Cecilia, next season.
But she was thankful for the opportunity to play with Calhoun teammates Marissa Snyder, Hillarie Hill, and Summer Wunderlich one final time.
Castillo caught Snyder, who pitched five innings. Hill had two hits and scored two runs, and Wunderlich had a hit and a RBI.
"I liked it a lot," Castillo said. "I love playing with them. I'm going to miss them next year."
Castillo's home run went over the right-field fence and tied the game at 2 in the fourth inning.
"That's kind of different for me," she said. "I'm usually left field or center field. I don't know what happened. I guess I waited too long."
The Black team built a 9-2 lead before the Blue team rallied for four runs in the bottom of the ninth and had the tying run at the plate when the game ended.
Yoakum's Courtney Carroll had two hits for the Black. Shiner's Jordan Pietch had two hits for the Blue.
Snyder and Louise's Michaela Bram pitched for the Black.
St. Joseph's Holly Parenica, Wharton's Melissa Janik, East Bernard's Erica Reyes and Cuero's Maegan Martin pitched for the Blue.
"This was very special," Daniel Castillo said. "This time we ended it with a win. It's like that old song. There's only one winner and that's the state champion and you usually go home with a loss. This time we're going home with a win."
