The Victoria Generals have an 8-1 record against five Texas Collegiate League teams.
But the Generals aren't in first place because they are 0-4 against the Brazos Valley Bombers.
The trend continued on Sunday night at Riverside Stadium with the Bombers capturing a 6-2 win.
"They just came out and played good baseball," said Generals designated hitter Billy Richard. "They have three come-from-behind victories on us so we just need to learn to close the game out."
The Generals (8-5) took a lead into the ninth inning of the previous three losses against the Bombers. But the Bombers never trailed Sunday.
Brazos Valley (11-2) went up 2-0 on Brennyn Smith's two-run home run off of starter Covey Morrow in the second inning and built a 5-0 advantage. The Bombers had 11 hits and scored in five innings.
"You just try to create momentum," Richard said, "That's all you can really do. One big play after another big play and just build from there. Somebody makes a great play in the outfield, and turn around and get a couple of hits and start putting some runs up, the momentum can shift real quick. We can score a lot of runs in a hurry. We just never got the momentum going."
The Generals scored in the fifth when Trent Wagner walked and came home when Richard hit a ball that was lost by the center fielder and resulted in a triple. Richard scored on a wild pitch.
The Generals had runners on base in every inning but the first and the eighth, but stranded 12, including five in scoring position.
"We left a lot on," said Richard, who had two of the Generals' five hits. "We hit the ball hard, but we just hit it right to people."
The Generals return to Riverside Stadium to open a two-game series against The Woodlands Strykers on Monday at 7 p.m.
