Geoff Graff led the way with 15 points and two 3-pointers for Faith Academy, which had four players score in double figures as the Cougars routed defending TAPPS 1A state champion San Antonio Gateway, 72-35, on Tuesday.
Gateway entered the game ranked 20th in the state for small private schools by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches.
Along with Graff's scoring for the Cougars, Eli Espindola added 14, Jacob Nunez scored 12 and Jonathan Luck and 11.
The Cougars, who are now 5-6 on the season, led 47-18 at halftime.
Faith Academy rained 3-pointers on Gateway, draining seven total on the game.
Garrett Meyers led all scorers with 22 points for San Antonio Gateway.
GIRLS BASKETBALL• ST. JOSEPH 38, TIDEHAVEN 35: Kensey Marshall drained five 3-pointers and led all scorers with 18 points, and St. Joseph came back from a six-point halftime deficit to beat Tidehaven, on Tuesday in El Maton. The Lady Tigers led 18-12 at halftime over the Lady Flyers, who are now 6-3 on the season. Marshall was the only player on either team in double figures. Kalyn Hempel and Chloe Shoemake were next on St. Joseph with six points each. Tyler Mitchell led Tidehaven with eight points Tuesday, followed by Danielle Galvan's seven and Karissa Wiley's six.
• FAITH ACADEMY 46, S.A. GATEWAY 24: Sarah Alex led all scorers with 16 points, and the Lady Cougars cruised past Gateway on Tuesday night at home. Maegan Wilkinson was second on Faith Academy with nine points, and Tiffany Kremling and Courtne Grevey each added five points. The Lady Cougars, who led 29-15 at halftime, are now 6-5 on the year.
• BLOOMINGTON 49, VAN VLECK 44: Brittany Wallace led all scorers with 24 points, and the Lady Bobcats moved to 5-1 on the season with a win over Van Vleck.
