Approximately 1,000 triathletes were in Kerrville over the weekend to compete in one of three distances. A sprint distance, quarter-iron, or half-ironman distance was offered for triathletes to compete in.
Blustery winds and chilly temperatures greeted the triathletes as they swam, biked, and ran their way to the finish line.
Half Ironman distance
The 1.2-mile swim, 56-mile bike, and 13.1-mile run proved to be 70.3 miles of tough, windy conditions and a trail run for a portion of the event.
There were 347 total finishers, 199 men with an average time of 6 hours 3 minutes and 148 women with an average time of 6 hours 52 minutes.
Local finishers from our area were: Eric Dohmen, 6:15:34; Leana Elliott, 6:32:25; Crystal Cantu, 6:37:27; Tyler Bollmann, 6:54:30; Ashley Leita, 7:04:19 (podium finisher, 2nd AG); Robert Peterson, 7:47:25; Tressa Story, 8:31:57; Kimberly Rollins, 8:31:57.
Quarter iron distance
The quarter iron distance consisted of a 1,000-meter swim, 29-mile bike, and a 6.4-mile run.
There were 268 finishers in this race with 143 men finishing with an average time of 3:03 and 125 women finishing with an average time of 3:32.
Matt Wickham was our only local competitor in that race and he finished first overall in his age division.
He covered the course in a time of 2:34:02, averaging 2:03/100 meters on the swim; 21.2 mph on the bike; and 7:31 per mile on the run.
Sprint distance
The sprint distance consisted of a 500-meter swim; 15-mile bike; and 3.1-mile run.
There were 341 total finishers with 167 men finishing with an average time of 1:40 and 174 women finishing with an average time of 1:52.
There were three local finishers from our area: Marie Immenhauser, 1:47:47; Lori Caballero, 1:58:04; and Janet Monney, 2:06:10.
