    Calhoun Sandcrabs at Victoria West Warriors

    Last year: Calhoun, 54-6.

    Notes: Calhoun (6-0, 3-0) looks to maintain sole possession of the district lead when it travels from Port Lavaca to Memorial Stadium to play West (4-2, 1-1). Calhoun is ranked No. 10 in the state Class 4A poll and would clinch a playoff berth with a win. Calhoun has won 20 straight regular-season games and is coming off a 46-15 win over Gregory-Portland. West had its four-game winning streak snapped last week in a 54-48 loss to Victoria East. Calhoun's Cory Williams has rushed for 1,077 yards and 16 touchdowns, and Hunter Boerm has rushed for 816 yards and 10 touchdowns. West's Garrett Rother has passed for 660 yards and eight touchdowns and rushed for 605 yards and five touchdowns.

    Victoria East Titans at Beeville Trojans

    Last year: East, 35-28.

    Notes: East (2-5, 1-2) travels to Beeville's Veterans Memorial Stadium to play Beeville (2-4, 0-2). East ended a three-game losing streak and picked up its first district win last week with a 54-48 victory over Victoria West. Beeville had an open date after suffering district losses to Gregory-Portland and Victoria West. East's Jonathan Ortega made his first start at quarterback against West and threw for 288 yards and four touchdowns and rushed for 167 yards and three touchdowns. East's Jonathan Lofton has 23 receptions for 452 yards and six touchdowns. Beeville's Roger Salazar has rushed for 460 yards and seven touchdowns.

    DISTRICT 25-3A


    Wharton Tigers at El Campo Ricebirds

    Last year: El Campo, 41-6.

    Notes: El Campo (6-0, 2-0) goes for its 11th straight win over Wharton County rival Wharton (6-1, 3-0). The teams meet in a district game for the first time since 1999 when they were Class 4A schools. The winner will gain sole possession of the district lead. El Campo is ranked No. 12 in the state Class 3A poll and leads the district in team offense (419 yards per game) and team defense (186.2 yards per game). El Campo has won nine consecutive regular-season games dating back to last season. Wharton has won six straight games since opening the season with a loss against Cuero. Wharton's Bartee Grissom has passed for 1,231 yards and 15 touchdowns, Alfred Pinkney has rushed for 619 yards and six touchdowns, and Leeshad O'Neal and Dontay Bell have combined for 46 receptions for 770 yards and 11 touchdowns. El Campo's Jack Davis (628 yards), Montray Johnson (458) and Bryce Brandl (407) have combined to rush for 1,493 yards and 20 touchdowns.

    Yoakum Bulldogs at Cuero Gobblers

    Last year: Yoakum, 25-21

    Notes: DeWitt County rivals Yoakum (4-2, 1-0) and Cuero (2-4, 0-1) meet for the 102nd time. Cuero leads the series 66-29-6. Yoakum opened district with a 27-24 win over Smithville. Cuero lost its district opener 41-28 to Giddings. The contest is the DQ Big Game of the Week and will be featured on Fox Sports Southwest's High School Scoreboard Live at midnight. Yoakum's Chase Hermes has passed for 1,064 yards and nine touchdowns, and Keith Ratley and T.J. Hights have combined for 31 receptions for 850 yards and eight touchdowns. Cuero's Blake Reeve has passed for 1,076 yards and nine touchdowns, and Justin Rossett and Ross Riemenschneider have combined for 54 catches for 725 yards and seven touchdowns.

    Giddings Buffaloes at Gonzales Apaches

    Last year: Did not play.

    Notes: Giddings (6-0, 1-0) opened district with a 41-28. Gonzales (4-2, 0-1) lost its district opener 35-34 to La Grange, its second one-point loss of the season. Giddings is ranked No. 7 in the state Class 3A poll and is coached by former Refugio coach Chris Jones. Gonzales is leading the district in team defense, yielding an average of 193.7 yards per game. Giddings' Adam Dock has passed for 956 yards and 10 touchdowns, and Joseph Glenn and Deon Hickey have combined to rush for 949 yards and 13 touchdowns. Gonzales' Cecil Johnson has rushed for 1,130 yards and 13 touchdowns, and Zack Lopez has an area-leading five interceptions.

    DISTRICT 14-2A, DIVISION I


    Edna Cowboys at Industrial Cobras

    Last year: Edna, 48-35.

    Notes: Jackson County rivals Edna (4-2, 1-0) and Industrial (2-4, 0-1) square off in Vanderbilt. The teams have split their two games since moving into the same district. Edna opened district with a win over Hempstead. Industrial lost its district opener to Rice Consolidated. Edna has averaged 345.2 yards per game, but has yielded an average of 358.7 yards per game. Edna's DeQuan Cantu has rushed for 258 yards and two touchdowns, passed for 314 yards and four touchdowns and caught 14 passes for 246 yards and two touchdowns, while punting for a 36.7-yard average. Industrial's Jay Rubio has passed for 569 yards and four touchdowns and rushed for 236 yards and two touchdowns.

    Hallettsville Brahmas at Rice Cons. Raiders

    Last year: Hallettsville, 20-14.

    Notes: Hallettsville (6-0, 1-0) travels to Altair to play Rice Consolidated (3-3, 1-0) for the 25th time with the winner guaranteed a share of the district lead. The series is tied 12-12 and Hallettsville's win last season broke a streak of seven consecutive wins by Rice Consolidated, which opened district with a win over Industrial. Hallettsville opened district with a win over Palacios and is off to its best start since 1979. Hallettsville shares the No. 10 ranking in the Class 2A state poll with Lexington. Hallettsville's Teidrick Smith has rushed for a district-leading 680 yards and eight touchdowns, Carson Schindler has passed for 885 yards and 12 touchdowns, and Dalton Herrington and Trenton McGee have combined for 44 receptions for 802 yards and 10 touchdowns. Rice Consolidated's James Garner (493) and Jordan Johnson (469) have combined to rush for 962 yards and nine touchdowns.

    Hempstead Bobcats at Palacios Sharks

    Last year: Did not play.

    Notes: Hempstead (4-2, 0-1) and Palacios (5-1, 0-1) look to bounce back from district-opening losses. Hempstead lost to Edna and Palacios was defeated by Hallettsville. Hempstead had a streak of 11 straight district wins snapped. Palacios has lost nine consecutive district games, including eight as a Class 3A team. Hempstead's Will Smith has passed for 812 yards and 10 touchdowns and rushed for 624 yards and 11 touchdowns. Palacios' Anthony Garcia has passed for a district-leading 1,035 yards and 11 touchdowns, and Zach Garcia has a district-leading 25 catches for 593 yards and seven touchdowns.

    DISTRICT 15-2A, DIVISION I


    Goliad Tigers at Brooks Academy Bengals

    Last year: Did not play.

    Notes: Goliad (4-3, 1-2) travels to San Antonio to play Brooks Academy (0-6, 0-2). Goliad is trying to bounce back from consecutive district losses to Luling and Marion after opening district with a win over Jourdanton. Brooks Academy has lost its last 10 games and has been shutout in its last three games. Goliad's Dalton Sturm has passed for 731 yards and seven touchdowns and rushed for 524 yards and 10 touchdowns.

    DISTRICT 13-2A, DIVISION II


    Brazos Cougars at East Bernard Brahmas

    Last year: East Bernard, 56-10.

    Notes: Brazos (2-5, 0-3) travels from Wallis to play East Bernard (6-0, 2-0). Brazos has scored a total of six points in district losses to Danbury, Tidehaven and Boling. East Bernard is coming off its open week after beating Tidehaven and Boling. East Bernard is ranked No. 4 in the Class 2A state poll. East Bernard is ranked first in the district in team offense and defense and Brazos is ranked last in the district in team offense and defense. East Bernard's Ty Slanina (508), Cedrick Perkins (461) and Joe Richardson (311) have combined to rush for 1,280 yards and 19 touchdowns.

    Hitchcock Bulldogs at Tidehaven Tigers

    Last year: Did not play.

    Notes: Hitchcock (4-2, 2-0) travels to El Maton to play Tidehaven (1-6, 1-2). Hitchcock has won its last three games, including district wins over Van Vleck and Danbury. Tidehaven lost to Van Vleck last week after gaining its first win of the season against Brazos. Hitchcock's Devin Molis has rushed for 732 yards and 11 touchdowns and passed for 127 yards and four touchdowns. Tidehaven's Eric Villarreal has rushed for 408 yards and two touchdowns and has 214 receiving yards and two touchdowns.


    Van Vleck Leopards at Boling Bulldogs

    Last year: Did not play.

    Notes: Van Vleck (1-5, 1-2) and Boling (3-3, 1-1) play for the first time since they were district opponents in 2009. Van Vleck won that game 13-9. Van Vleck ended a 12-game losing streak with a 13-7 win over Tidehaven last week. Boling is coming off a 30-6 win over Brazos. Van Vleck's Dean Bagby has passed for a district-leading 981 yards and six touchdowns, Kylon Brown has an area-leading 36 receptions for 497 yards and four touchdowns, and Colbey Calk has 29 catches for 267 yards two touchdowns. Boling's Allen Gillis has rushed for a district-leading 889 yards and five touchdowns.

    DISTRICT 14-2A, DIVISION II


    Schulenburg Shorthorns at Rogers Eagles

    Last year: Did not play.

    Notes: Schulenburg (5-2, 2-1) and Rogers (5-1, 1-1) each lost to Blanco by one point and find themselves in a virtual must-win situation to gain a playoff berth. The loser would have to beat No. 7 Lexington to have a shot at the postseason. Rogers leads the district in team offense, averaging 476.8 yards per game. Schulenburg leads the district in team defense, yielding an average of 247.3 yards per game. Schulenburg's Ross Bludau has passed for 1,145 yards and 11 touchdowns, Jyron McKenzie has rushed for 616 yards and five touchdowns, and Jeffrey Lara has a district-leading 25 catches for 631 yards and six touchdowns. Rogers' Carson Skala (922), Trever Coats (813) and Brody Malovets (776) are the district's top three rushers with a combined 2,511 yards and 29 touchdowns.

    DISTRICT 15-2A, DIVISION II


    Natalia Mustangs at Karnes City Badgers

    Last year: Did not play.

    Notes: Natalia (0-6, 0-3) and Karnes City (5-1, 3-0) play for the first time since 2009. Karnes City won that game 50-13. Karnes City has won five straight games and yielded a total of seven points in district wins over Nixon-Smiley, Bloomington and Cotulla. Natalia has give up a total of 142 points in district losses to Cotulla, Stockdale and Poth. Karnes City comes into the game in a first-place tie with Poth and Dilley.


    Bloomington Bobcats at Nixon-Smiley Mustangs

    Last year: Did not play.

    Notes: Bloomington (0-6, 0-3) and Nixon-Smiley (0-6, 0-3) play for the first time since 2005 when they were last district opponents. Nixon-Smiley won that game 43-0. Bloomington has lost 15 straight games and 54 consecutive district games. Nixon-Smiley has lost seven straight games. Nixon-Smiley's Tristan Newman has scored five on Nixon-Smiley's eight touchdowns. Bloomington's Rueben Aguirre has 136 rushing yards and 153 receiving yards and has scored three touchdowns.

    DISTRICT 16-2A, DIVISION II


    Refugio Bobcats at Hebbronville Longhorns

    Last year: Refugio, 69-13.

    Notes: Refugio (6-0, 3-0) and Hebbronville (0-6, 0-3) play for the eighth time. Refugio holds a 6-1 edge in the series. Refugio is ranked a unanimous No. 1 in the state Class 2A poll. Refugio has won 21 consecutive games, 57 straight regular-season games and 33 straight district games. Hebbronville has lost eight straight games. Refugio's Travis Quintanilla set a state record against Taft last week by throwing 10 touchdown passes and has passed for 2,003 yards and 30 touchdowns. Refugio's Marcus Thompson and Louie Whetsel have combined for 56 receptions for 1,214 yards and 16 touchdowns.

    DISTRICT 13-1A, DIVISION I


    Weimar Wildcats at Flatonia Bulldogs

    Last year: Weimar (3-3, 1-0) and Flatonia (3-4, 0-1) play for the first time since a non-district game in 2007. Weimar won that game 42-13. Weimar opened district with a win over Thorndale. Flatonia dropped its district opener to Holland and has lost four straight since opening the season with three wins. Weimar's JaKyle Harris has rushed for 665 yards and five touchdowns, and Juwan Almeida has passed for 512 yards and one touchdown. Flatonia's Dalton Griffin has rushed for 448 yards and four touchdowns, and Will Bruns has passed for 511 yards and four touchdowns.

    DISTRICT 15-1A, DIVISION I


    Yorktown Wildcats at Ganado Indians

    Last year: Ganado, 55-19.

    Notes: Ganado (5-1, 0-0) goes for its third straight win over Yorktown (4-2, 0-1) since the teams became district opponents. Yorktown is coming off a district-opening loss to Three Rivers. Ganado had a bye last week and has won five straight games since opening the season with a loss to Hallettsville. Ganado is ranked No. 15 in the state Class 1A poll and has limited opponents to an average of 193.8 yards per game. Yorktown's Derek Franke has rushed for 908 yards and 14 touchdowns and passed for 121 yards and one touchdown. Ganado's Clay Vesely has rushed for 791 yards and nine touchdowns.

    Kenedy Lions at Three Rivers Bulldogs

    Last year: Three Rivers, 35-21.

    Notes: Kenedy (4-2, 0-1) and Three Rivers (4-2, 1-0) played last season in a non-district game before Three Rivers dropped from Class 2A and into a district with Kenedy. Three Rivers opened district with a win over Yorktown. Kenedy lost its district opener to No. 7 Shiner last week. Kenedy's Rolie Zepeda has passed for 478 yards and five touchdowns, and Weston Hallmark has 24 receptions for 246 yards and two touchdowns. Three Rivers' Wesley Guzman (757), Paul Almendarez (437) and Robert Moreno (350) have combined to rush for 1,604 yards and 11 touchdowns.

    DISTRICT 14-1A, DIVISION II


    Runge Yellowjackets at Louise Hornets

    Last year: Did not play.

    Notes: Runge (6-0, 1-0) and Louise (0-6, 0-0) play for the first time since they were last district opponents in 2005. Louise won that game 55-6. Runge is ranked No. 20 in the state Class 1A poll and is off to its best start since 1997. Runge opened district last week with a 14-13 win over previously unbeaten Woodsboro. Louise is coming off its bye week and has lost its last 12 games. Runge's Dylan Torres has rushed for 687 yards and seven touchdowns and Rob Molina has rushed for 626 yards and 13 touchdowns.


    Pettus Eagles at Woodsboro Eagles

    Last year: Pettus, 28-0.

    Notes: Pettus (0-7, 0-1) and Woodsboro (6-1, 0-1) play for the 11th consecutive season. Pettus holds a 6-4 edge during that span. Woodsboro suffered a 14-13 loss to Runge in its district opener. Pettus dropped its district opener to Falls City to stay winless. Woodsboro had scored at least 27 points in each game before last week's loss. Woodsboro's DeBray Bonner has rushed for 902 yards and 11 touchdowns, and Tyler Quesada has rushed for 598 yards and nine touchdowns.

    TAPPS DIVISION II, DIST. 3


    St. Joseph Flyers at San Antonio TMI Panthers, 7 p.m.

    Last year: TMI, 16-6.

    Notes: St. Joseph (2-4, 2-1) and TMI (3-3, 0-3) split non-district games over the past two seasons. St. Joseph is coming off a district win over Austin Regents and is locked in a three-way tie for third place with Regents and San Antonio Christian. TMI has lost district games to Austin Hyde Park, S.A. Holy Cross and S.A. Christian after winning its three non-district games.

    John Paul II Guardians at Sacred Heart Indians, 4:30 p.m.

    Last year: Did not play.

    Notes: John Paul II (1-4, 0-1) travels from Schertz to Hallettsville to play Sacred Heart (3-3, 1-0). John Paul II has lost four straight games since opening the season with a win over Giddings State, including a 44-20 district loss to Shiner St. Paul last week. Sacred Heart has won three straight games since opening the season with three losses. Sacred Heart opened district with a 42-40 win over Bryan St. Joseph last week.
