YOAKUM - Opening night indeed.
Victoria West and Yoakum showed signs of rust and glimpses of hope on Monday night.
In a game that lasted over three hours, featured four lead changes, the winning run in Yoakum's 12-10 victory fittingly scored on a bases-loaded walk by Chase Hermes and the Bulldogs added insurance runs on a hit by pitch, a walk and a pair of sacrifice flies.
The teams combined to use seven pitchers, with reliever Timmy Blakeney picking the win.
Both teams batted around in an inning. The Warriors sent 12 batters to the plate in the fifth when they scored six runs on two hits.
The Bulldogs sent 10 batters to the plate and scored five runs in the decisive sixth with three hits.
West came back in the top of the seventh and scored three runs, including a two-run home run by Jack Riggs.
Keith Ratley had two hits for Yoakum. Riggs, Corey Willemin, Garrett Rother and Koby Bynum each had two hits for West.
Yoakum starter Troy Kacir had seven strikeouts in three innings of work.
