    CORPUS CHRISTI - Wharton's Holli Reynolds won the Region IV-3A girls singles title Thursday at the H-E-B Tennis Center.

    Shining Stars bring home impressive medal haul

    The Victoria Shining Stars Special Olympics track and field team competed in the Special Olympics Texas Area 2 Spring Games at Cabaniss Field in Corpus Christi on April 5. The team came home with 14 gold, 11 silver and eight bronze medals. The also received eight fourth-place, four fifth-place, one sixth-place and one participation ribbons.The team also brought an impressive amount of hardware at the Dewitt-Lavaca Spring Meet at Yoakum's Bulldog Stadium. They won 23 gold, 17 silver and seven bronze medals. Team members are Kelly Banach, David Chen-Yuan, Luis Coto, Merideth Evans, Richard Evans, Kristen Fowler, Tina Fox, Wesley Gates, Jonathan Green, Steven Kleincke, Johnny Kozok, Hannah Lee, Ana Lopez, Beatrice Lopez, Richard Morales, Sarah Nicholson, Melanie Pope, Jeremy Rendon, Ross Steele, Laverne Turner, Nathan Ulcak and Billy Wilson.

    Young golfer hits hole-in-one at VCC

    Nck Cantwell hit a hole in one during his first Friday round of golf with his dad, Breene Cantwell, and other club members. Nick hit his show on the 12th hole from 127-yards out while using an 8-iron. Witnesses to Nick's shot were Breence Cantwell, Barry Hartman, Heber Lacerda and Steve Meacham. Breene Cantwell is the general manager/director of golf at Victoria Country Club.

    We're in California visiting the new granddaughter. Walking with Gracie the dog, we spotted a dead bird. Ants had worked it over; it was mostly feathers and bones, including one wing. Looking at the wing, Paul started mulling over things he knew about wings. There was a shoulder, then one bone connected to two bones and then a couple of bones that sort of looked like fingers.
