Rage, I was there working in the press box a couple of weeks ago. Before that, the last time I was at the Alice stadium was when I was a student at Ray in '78. It's waaaay better now with two levels, seating on all four sides of the field, a replay board on the scoreboard. Very press friendly now. If ever VISD were to have a bond election to upgrade Memorial Stadium, I'd vote for it.
No one can deny the central location of Memorial Stadium. However, the press box looks from the ground level like it hasn't been remodeled since the stadium was built. More and more stadiums in surrounding areas (like Alice for example) are being built with multiple press box levels and elevators for equipment hauling and handicapped access. Build it, install a replay screen and data ports for Internet access, and there will be more games coming your way guaranteed.
No, I was actually trying to DEFEND the writer. It was the person at the beginning of this lame thread who suggested that the writer should have gone to Sports Reporting 101 and who should write 'linearly'--whatever that means. That was just downright mean in itself. I am pro media and I will defend the fifth estate against those who take potshots like you against the poor guy whose trying to make a living to bring you the final score...but just not fast enough for you. I am sick and tired of all of you commenters who feel as though it's your right to take shots when you really don't know the score. It's your opinion...fine. You have the right to take your shots against the writer and me. That's fine. I can take it. Just don't blame the messenger for attempting to get it to you in a timely fashion.
Oh please...You folks who criticize should be thanking your lucky stars that those folks at the paper are there to cover these games, so I think you all should thank instead of spending your energy on criticizing. Actually, y'all are kind of funny and sad, as I've already forgotten about the score. But, you did get the score in the end, didn't you? Now, go away haters.
I'm relatively sure RR, that he wouldnt have made an error as egregious as that--especially in the second paragraph. Usually quotes are inserted into the story after the game to build the story. A basic fact like the final score is usually built into the story skeleton immediately afterwards. Yes, I am giving him the benefit of doubt here, and yes, I do know that people make mistakes (even the Advocate), and that I could be totally wrong here because I didn't see the original posting. All I'm saying is that if you don't go to the game, then you have no place to criticize, so let's cut the writer some slack. And even if he did leave the score out, one can infer from the headline that East won.
Three area teams ranked in preseason baseball poll
Such good baseball within a 60 mile radius. Can't wait.

Native, I'm pretty sure he passed the course, while you flunked the proofreading class.
Read the end of the second paragraph.
Just sayin.
