Victoria East third baseman Marina Rios will sign a letter of intent to play softball at Galveston College.

As a junior, Rios was named the District 30-4A Defensive Player of the Year, helping the Titans (28-7-1 overall) win the district championship in the team’s inaugural season.

“I cannot say enough about the caliber of athlete Marina is and what she means to our program,” East head softball coach Jody Morgan said. “We are going to truly miss her after this season, however, I know she will prosper in any college softball program due to her dedication and effort.”

Offensively, Rios recorded 44 hits, 36 RBIs and 42 runs with a .400 batting average as a junior.

East’s first playoff run ended in the area round after losing to Tuloso-Midway in a three-game series.
