I remember going to Goliad quite a few years back to watch the Tigers play Refugio. During that game, a freshman was all over the field for the Bobcats, including returning a punt for a touchdown. That freshman was Willie Mack Garza and I recall Refugio coach Bobby Kelly shaking his head after the game and saying, "He's something else. He's something else." Anyone watching Refugio for the first time on Friday night at Memorial Stadium, got to witness another outstanding freshman. Draigon Silvas rushed for 111 yards and a touchdown and also ran for a two-point conversion in Refugio's 22-14 Class 2A, Division II quarterfinal win over Blanco. Silvas is the nephew of Garza, who went on to play at the University of Texas. There are similarities between Garza and Silvas, although Silvas seems to be more compact, with plenty of room to grow. The win moved Refugio into the semifinals for the first time since 2000. The Bobcats will play at Bowers Stadium in Huntsville next Saturday.
