Christmas Story

I don't usually leave a hospital in better spirits than I came, but that was the case Tuesday. I went to visit Dylan Ethridge at Warm Springs Rehab Hospital and was amazed. Ethridge, a freshman at Cuero High School, broke his neck in a swimming accident in the Guadalupe River near his Thomaston home in June. He is attempting to walk again and thanks to a lot of determination and therapy, he has gotten back on his feet with the help of leg braces and a walker. What impressed me was Ethridge's attitude toward life. Instead of complaining about what happened, he has poured his energy into his rehab. I asked Ethridge what he wanted for Christmas and his answer startled me. "I didn't ask for much this year," he said. "I couldn't think of much I really needed." I think we all could use some of what Ethridge has. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year
