The beginning of a rivalry

A lot of people in Victoria have had their eye on Nov. 5, when East and West will meet on the football field, in the final game of the regular season.

That's definitely a big game, but that's not going to be the first time these two schools will match up.

This coming Friday, the East and West volleyball teams will play each other for the first time. And in addition to being a match up of cross-town rivals, it should be an early glimpse at a district championship.

The Titans and Warriors are the cream of the crop in their district. Early in the season, East was expected to be No. 1 by a comfortable margin with nine seniors returning to lead the veteran group. West on the other hand had just one senior and was more of an unknown.

However, both teams have impressed throughout the non-district season. East's record isn't what West's is, but they've played a brutal schedule.

Count me in as one looking forward to Friday's match, both for the excitement it can generate between the schools, and for the district implications.
