Can Calhoun make it to Arlington?

Every week I get a call from a genial gentleman who just likes to shoot the breeze about high school football. It’s a cool relationship, I tell him what I know on the record, and he tells me about what people in the community are talking about.

This week, he told me that some people out there believe Calhoun has the talent to make at least the state semifinals.

The truth is, my birdie bet someone $20 that the Sandcrabs would make the state semifinals. So our conversation was whether they had the talent for his boast not to be foolhardy.

(I’m not fond of gambling, but what other men do with their time and money is their business. I found creative ways to not answer my source’s question about Calhoun’s playoff chances.)

What I did provide was context about the Sandcrabs offense, and their defensive personnel from what I witnessed in their season-opening victory over Calallen. On average Calhoun is outscoring opponents by five touchdowns. There is little doubt they have a ton of talent on offense and an improving secondary.

The question seems to be whether they can win 15 or 16 games with that roster — even if there is a distinct vulnerability within the team that might get exposed in late November?

Any trips to the state semis, or beyond, might depend on the luck of the draw.

If Victoria West and Gregory-Portland don’t get their act together and miss the playoffs, Calhoun might qualify for the playoffs as a Division I team and not a Division II team, which would mean they would likely have to face the juggernaut that is Lake Travis in the regional rounds.

Regardless, of where Calhoun might be placed in the playoffs — and let’s be honest, if they miss the playoffs after all the hype, it would be an epic fail down in Port Lavaca — they would have to beat a few good teams if they want to play December football.

But as I told my source: it’s high school football: anything is possible.

Calhoun's potential is valid. Their longevity will rely more on ther bench. Having high scoring games is great for state rankings, setting rushing records, etc. However, keeping starters in the game with a 25+ point lead is not great with a shallow bench. If a starting quarterback or running back is injured for a week or more with a 30 point lead, the question will be asked.

to add to that brooks also missed 2 games with an ankle injury, and plc scored points without him.if im not mistaken plc 2nd and 3rd string qb have several quarters of play under their belt already.and whitt has taken a knee on opponents 5 yrd line and deeper at the end of several games already..callalen,ray ,t.m.,cuero,and rockport. so jimenezng your theory is wrong in this area.i believe that plc players and staff believe they can make it to december, just by being around this team i believe they can.if they dont have confidence that they can play that late then we dont need to be playing at all.hey ww if vic east doesnt make it to the poffs that would be a epic fail. they lost to a 1 -3 team lstnite at home, yet another epic fail.

Calhoun will win district, and they have a chance to win Region 4 if they are in Division 2 because all the elite Region 4 teams go Division 1. I know Calhoun fans hate East and they hope East fails, but in reality they better hope East makes the playoffs because if not that means a possible date with Lake Travis in Division 1, and I don't think Calhoun would stay within 35 points of LT. LT is destroying everyone. That's not a diss on Calhoun. LT is just at a whole 'nother level.

I think Calhoun can make the Semi's if the cards fall in the right place as far as who goes Division 2. Division 1 has all the really tough teams. But I think the run will end in the semi's. Region 3 has too much speed for Region 4 teams.....just ask Calallen how many times their run has ended in the Semi's. I think GP got blasted on by Brenham the one time they played, but I could be wrong.

Again, this isn't a diss on Calhoun. I'm just a realist. If I'm wrong, I'll be the first to admit it. I'll analyze my thoughts again once I see who goes Division 1 and Division 2.

If I decide to give a rats behind, I might double check, but I swear redrage, you were one of the people that thought East had a chance last year when they played LT, and you chastised me for predicting the score to within a touchdown. Now you are basically saying that Calhoun has no chance.

I
Not saying Calhoun does have a chance, just pointing out the hipacracy of your statements. Not to mention that this Calhoun team is far better than last years East team. But then again, LT is better this year than they were last year, scary!!

You must have me confused with someone else. I knew what East was getting into going up against LT. Like I said, I'm a realist. I didn't think East would win against LT last year, but I was still there supporting them.

I'm one of the few people in here that'll tell it like it is even if its against my own teams...that's why I'm not well liked LOL

Dear redrage00, look familiar?

Lake Travis can be beat. They've been beaten twice this season already. Also, if you look back to bi-district, McCallum played pretty tough with LT. LT only beat them 28-20. That's a team they should have blown out. Either way, I'll be there cheering on the Titans, and hoping for the upset!

September 27, 2011 at 6:55 p.m. ( | suggest removal )

RedRage00 says...

What part of that is false? They were beaten twice last season which means they could be beat. Notice I said "hoping for an upset!" That's a far cry from thinking they would win. Is that the best you could do? LOL

jasonbourne says...

Slap, thats a really nice post dredging effort but I don't see a whole lot there that backs up your story.

Last years East Team would have been a great match up to this years Crabs. East had a lot of offensive weapons. East had a pretty good defense last year as well. I said pretty good. They were just as easily exploited as this years Calhoun defense. All these Calhoun fans are all thinking they have a fantastic secondary and pass defense. Who has tested it? A bunch of quarterbacks that couldn't pass the ball if they tried. East won't test you either, they can't pass to save their life.

I just about spit a mouthful of tea all over my computer when I read that you thought these Crabs are "far better than last years East team".

Is LT better than last year? I think their competition didn't maintain like LT did.

I just hope we get to see Calhoun play a real top 5 4A team before it's all over. That way we can settle all this for good. It will probably be the same as when LT destroyed East. Some of the East fans were on here whining about the bad calls made by the refs. I still say, "What bad calls"?
I expect the same from the Calhoun faithful... if the crabs ever face a real team.

RedRage00 says...

Slapstick, did you forget this little post I made to you regarding the LT-East game last season? Notice how I picked LT to win...shocker.

"Slapstick,

Don't get so easily offended lol...I called you a troll because that's what you are. A troll is someone on the Internet that comes on just to try and get people worked up. You made that obvious in your very first post. Not because you picked Lake Travis, but because you go on to say things like "West will be the better of the 2 schools" when West has nothing to do with this game. That's a troll :) You haven't been here all season, but all of a sudden show up and all your posts are on this topic. Sounds like a troll to me....or at least another poster with an alias.

Also, you say things like "I hope all of you come back next week and say, slapstick you know you were right" You act like you are making some BOLD prediction. 99.9% of people in Texas think Lake Travis will win. Hell, some people I talked to didn't even know who Victoria East was. LT are the 3x defending State Champions and the obvious favorite so stop acting like we should worship you for your prediction. Someone call Ms Cleo...slapstick made such a bold prediction in picking the 3X defending State Champs LOL

In all honesty, I agree with some of what you're saying. I'm a realist, and I think Lake Travis will win (BOLD prediction huh?). I don't think that makes me a bad fan, and I hope the Titans prove me wrong. But I'm not gonna sit here and bad mouth the team and tell them they have no chance. They are getting that chance on Saturday. They are going to get 100% of my support Saturday at noon...win or lose...and I would have done the same thing for West. "

danrut says...

Can they make it? Of course they can! But, it's not going to come easy. And it does make a big difference if we go Div I or Div II. In Div I, we would probably play Lake Travis in 3rd round. Also, there is Smithson Valley and Cedar Park. Also, Kerrville Tivy and NB Canyon are borderline Div I/Div II.

Big question is Calhoun's defense. We all know they can score on just about anybody, but can they stop the high powered offenses. Our secondary looks to be improved, but probably won't get tested until the 3rd round of the playoffs. That is going to be our achiles heel. We aren't going to play a top notch team until then.
Not saying we can't lose a game till then, but we won't see a really good team again until then.

Here's hoping that I'm sitting in Dallas Cowboy Stadium on 3rd weekend of Dec. Whether it's the night of the 16th or noon on the 17th. Either or would be sweet.

Go Crabs!

Well can the Crabs make it to Arlington? Let me count the ways...

Lake Travis
La Marque(in an off year they will still factor in)
Terry
Angleton
Cedar Park
Brenham
Denton Ryan
Aledo
Calallen (different team than what you beat early)
Stephenville
Either D-I or DII is a long road that Calhoun will not conquer this year maybe 2 week deep but either or 3 week will be a challenge

danrut says...

Wildcat,

There are some really bad teams in Houston too. Yes, they have some good schools in the outskirts of Houston, but inner city Houston football is not that good. Calhoun has played and really thumped everyone on our schedule this year. When we made this schedule, Calallen and Cuero were really good teams. They have fallen off, but they are still decent teams and we have taken care of business.
There probably are a hand full of teams that can beat PLC in Houston. Probably a hand full of teams in SA/Austin area. But you guys are picking from 20-30 schools. and most of which has almost double the enrollment we do.
If you jump from one school to the other, you'll probably find one that can beat us every year. We're a small school in a small community. I love it when small schools get good, the guys from the big cities jump in and say how their school with 2000 kids can beat the little school with 1150 kids. I know, you'll throw La Marque out there, but if you don't have kids there or live there, save it!

October 23, 2011 at 10:34 a.m. ( | suggest removal )

danrut says...

Also, we play in a soft district? It's not up to the standards that it was last year, but, I'll predict we go 4-0 with one of the SA districts in the 1st round. They are really bad, but when the SA guys jump in here, they say how they aren't a real SA district. The bigger towns have so many schools to choose from, they just jump to the ones doing good this year.
In PLC, we have 1 team. We don't jump off their bandwagon and go with a new team each year. We stick to our team.
I do feel sorry for those that live in a big city where your team changes from year to year.
What do you do, wait till week 3 or 4 to determine which team is yours for the year?

October 23, 2011 at 10:40 a.m. ( | suggest removal )

RedRage00 says...

Danrut,

Why do yall always use the enrollment thing as an excuse as to why Calhoun doesn't schedule better teams? It's all just an excuse. Southlake Carroll has a small 5A enrollment and beats teams with 2 times their enrollment...the same can be said for Smithson Valley. Kerrville Tivy has like 1100 kids and they have no problem scheduling SA Madison (3000 kids) and beating them 48-7....or scheduling 5A State Champion Steele.

As far as inner city Houston schools...yes, they are bad...but didn't Calhoun lose to inner city Houston Sharpstown a couple years ago? Yes.

There are more than just a handful of teams in the Houston/Austin/SA area that can beat Calhoun. But we won't find out because Calhoun would rather schedule Rockport and Toluso-Midway LOL Calhoun really isn't as good as yall think yall are...maybe for the coastal bend but thats it.

October 23, 2011 at 11:02 a.m. ( | suggest removal )

danrut says...

I don't think I said we don't schedule teams because of enrollment. I said when we scheduled Cuero and Calallen, they were good teams. KT schedules these schools because they are in their area. Very few schools schedule 2.5 to 3 hour bus rides for non district games. Why doesn't KT schedule the better 4A schools from Dallas? Why doesn't Angleton or La Marque schedule LT? LT is a tougher team.
It's because of travel.
My point is that if you live in Houston, there will be several teams in any given year that could beat PLC. You have a lot of schools to choose from. This year it's Angleton, Manvel, etc. Next year it'll be Terry or Lamar or some other school. You just keep jumping from one school to the next and we'll stay with 1.

Overall, the big cities will have better football year in and year out because of the number of schools in that area. You fail to mention how sorry inner city Houston or SA football is. You stick to the ones that are winning now.
Our district stretches from PLC to CC up to the outskirts of SA. That's to get 6 4A schools. You want to compare your 40 something 4A schools in the Houston area? On most every year, you'll have one or more that is better. You're the smart guy, what's the odds of Houston having the better teams?

And as I've said before, go tell all the schools that got beat by La Marque last year that they are no good too. They got beat! Only 2 teams are state champ in 4A. There is a bigger chance these teams come from Hou/SA/Austin/Dallas areas. These areas carry 75-80% of the 4A schools.

And we'll have to wait to see just how good PLC is. Last year, we had trouble with our pre-playoff schedule and we went 3 deep. This year, well, we'll just have to wait and see!

No doubt it would be great to pull some of those things off. I believe we have in the past played in 3 different KO classics. Those opposing teams were pretty much chosen for us(we agreed to them, but they were chosen by the KO classics). Mercedes one year, FB and then Calallen.
There are rumors out there that we could possibly play in another KO classic this coming year. I would love for it to be a team like KT, Angleton, or team of that nature. Win or lose, those are the games that make you better. And I am all for that!

Calhoun has not played a tough team this year. I am from Victoria, yes last year i went to SA. To see the Victoria teams play. This year I will go and see Calhoun play in SA. Just to back a local team from the area. Calhoun is very good this year. Everybody is has a opinion but remember these are kids on the field. Not you. Let the kids enjoy there moment of the spot light. The only disadvantage Calhoun has alot of other teams parents have the cash to go Camps. You might not think this help but it does help. But when the games starts it is zero to zero. I hope to see Calhoun go deep in the playoffs.

When, and if, you win the weak Region 4 Division 2 bracket you'll be in for a rude awakening once you meet the Region 3 Rep. Just ask Calallen how that has worked out for them over the years.

Thank you, come again.

So, RED does that mean that you are really a very nice person that can love and be loved and now you agree with Scout about good luck to all teams as one of those 30 4A is the Sandcrabs that you have been thrashing. Woo Hoo what a change, you the man Red and you hang in there you hear. I cant wait to hear you say the final 4 teams in Div II are no good, O yes, you said that there is only one good team in all of the State Of Texas High School Football and that is LAKE TRAVIS. Just for converstation, Beeville played Lake Travis a few years ago and could have beaten a team that was better then than they are now, you remember the quarterback GILBERT. Beeville is a Coastal Bend Region 4 Team that you say is sorry, no good, cant beat anyone in Region 1, 2, or your best 3. Now, Beeville did beat the Sandcrabs that year, I think, but this years Sandcrabs is way better than that team the year Beeville could have beat LAKE TRAVIS and the Sandcrabs would give LAKE TRAVIS A RUN FOR THEIR MONEY, but dear that is just plain and simple not going to happen. So lets start talking about Div II Teams when you talk about the Sandcrabs, if you want to talk DIV I then dont say SANDCRABS. DIV 1 is schools with more students and Div 2 is Schools with fewer Students and that in no way says that a DIV 2 team Cannot play the game of football as good as A DIV 1 TEAM Can. Now you see upsets all the time in College footbal with teams with fewer students beating teams with more students so I say to you that it is possible a team with fewer students in their school can beat a team with more students in their school. So, I hope this clears it up for you today and you can now go have some more icecream.

Question for any of you on this string- Is there an online site that is tracking the offensive stats for the whole district? For example: What are the current rushing stats of the four Crab running backs? Thanks.

d6975- got to disagree with you on that one. A team built around the rushing game can win until a team stops em. Having the passing card in your pocket is a "nice to have" but smash mouth rushing can take you to a championship if your opponent cannot stop you.

jasonbourne says...

Scoring is one of those things that generally the offense does. How they do it doesn't really matter.

The more important thing is they must put on the board, more points than their defense will allow. Since Calhouns defense has not really been tested by a quarterback of any caliber yet, no one really knows what they can and cannot stop.

They have intercepted a few passes but many were just lobs that were tossed up for grabs.

I want to see what Calhoun can do against another Boerne Champion type scenario. You know, a real quarterback with more than one weapon to throw to.

danrut says...

Thanks for the run RR.

This is a tough question "Can Calhoun make it to Arlington?".

Can they? Yes, but it won't be easy. They'll have to beat a SA Lanier or Southside the 1st round. Then it'll more than likely be Edcouch the 2nd round. If they get by this one, the next one will be tough. Everyone is pretty much locking KT in there, but don't be suprised if NBC comes away with a win next week. Not likely because they are playing in KT, but it wouldn't suprise me too much if the upset happens.
Then they have to play probably Alamo Heights or Calallen in the Reg IV Championship game. Who would win? It's a toss up. I would rather play AH in this one. Not because I think Calallen is better than we are, but it is really tough to beat a team 2 times in one year. If it's a team close in talent and dedication as you are, it's very tough to get them that 2nd time and I think Calallen would be tough to beat again. Not impossible, but tough.
Then it would be the State Semi-Finals. Wow! We would get the Reg III Champ. Say what you will, but this game is the tough for a reason. It's the freakin State Semi-Finals! It doesn't matter who makes it from each Region, it's going to be tough. I won't predict a winner here, but anyone, whether from Reg III or Reg IV who thinks they are going to walk in and play a pansy is sadly mistaken.
The Reg IV winner will be tough. Whether it is Calallen, NBC, Tivy, Calhoun or someone else, they are all good teams. If one team from Reg III or one of the ones from Reg IV start clicking at the right time, they could make this a blow out game. Look at La Marque last year, they played decent during the season and really blew up last year during their playoff run. That's what a team needs, just put it together at the right time.
Then it's the State Championship. The toughest of them all. If you get here, it's anyone's game, but if you play Aledo, they have been there and done that, so they won't be near as nervous, etc as the other teams. It will be tough to beat them if they are there.

So, can the Crabs make it? Yes. Could KT make it? Yes. Calallen? Yes. La Marque? Yes. Brenham? yes.
From Reg IV, I believe it is a 4 team race. In Reg. III, wow! there's about 5 or 6 teams that have a legit chance at it.
Who's it going to be? Let's talk about it again in the 2nd week of December.

November 3, 2011 at 12:56 p.m. ( | suggest removal )

danrut says...

Victoria Native,

It is amazing when you think about their stats. Also keep in mind that Bargas missed 1/2 a game. Brooks missed 2 1/2 games. And every game save 1 or 2, these guys sat out most of the 4th quarters.

It's really amazing to me that all 4 of these kids continue to play like they do. Not one of them gets upset when the other guy gets the ball. IF you watch some of the highlights, the kid that makes the touchdown walks over and gives the ball to the ref. The others are the ones jumping up and down. Whit really instills in these kids that the blockers deserve the credit. And you can see this in their reactions on the field.

I have been corrected many times that it's the blocking that deserves the credit. So here are some blocking stats for you. Notice the cut blocking that the Slotbacks do. That's Loya and Brooks. They lead the team!

Thaelen V. - Clrs 19 Cuts 16 Pnck 16
J.R. Perez - Clrs 18 Cuts 16 Pnck 9
Aaron G. - Clrs 11
D. Brooks - Clrs 11 Cuts 27
Jamie G. - Clrs 11 Cuts 22 Pnck 8
Danny O. - Clrs 10 Cuts 18 Pnck 14
J. Loya - Clrs 9 Cuts 24

Before you attack, Tivy's only two losses were to (4 time state champion) Lake Travis and (5A Powerhouse) Cibolo Steele

If I were a betting man, I would put my money on kerville, my very own blood will be out there playing so it's hard for me to say that.

Go get them crabs, I will be there Friday with the rest of Calhoun county. If any Lanier fans plan on attending, um......... I would get there early.

Don't get me wrong anyone, there is nothing more I would like to see than Calhoun in that semifinal game against the likes of LaMarque, Manvel, Roseberg Terry, or Brenham.

It may not be likely to happen, but I would love to see it happen! Calhoun will most likely stomp the crap out of their first 2 opponents. After that, well we'll see.

Now Victoria East on the other hand better pray they lose the second game against ALice or Weslaco. The winner will have to go face Cedar Park. That won't be pretty.

I will be trying to find a way to the Smithson Valley vs Lake Travis game. That will be a great area battle. I just feel bad for Smithson Valley. They have a great team!

jasonbourne says...

I haven't seen Alamo, but I'm going to go ahead and put my money on Calallen. After the Calhoun game they pretty much shredded "everyone" that showed up to play them.

November 8, 2011 at 9:11 a.m. ( | suggest removal )

RedRage00 says...

Calallen is one of those teams you don't wanna meet again in the playoffs. The first game against Calhoun they lost their starting QB on the first series in the first quarter, and the game was still close going into the 4th quarter. Since that game Calallen has been improving a lot, and it seems like Calhoun has become complacent in our weak district.

Last year Calallen lost to GP in the regular season and then shredded them in the 2nd round of the playoffs by like 40 points.

I guess we'll have to wait and see, but at this time I'd say Calallen is the favorite overall in Division 2 for Region 4. Doesn't matter because they're going to get shredded by Brenham, LaMarque or Alvin Manvel in the semi's.

November 8, 2011 at 9:30 a.m. ( | suggest removal )

Sandcrab5 says...

Well, Red I think your dead wrong about Calallen, yes they have been beating teams, but, they like you say about Calhoun, they have played no one great, except the Calhoun Sandcrabs and you saw that outcome, and you say their quarterback got put out, who put him out? Now as far as LaMarque, Manvel, and Brenham, I do not think these teams are as good as last year (LaMarque and Brenham) and (Ker Tivy) you can look at all the games and scores they played and tell that. So the Port Lavaca Sandcrabs will play TIVY and win because they will think back when we should have beat a great quarterback Tivy team as we were 17 to O at half and their team then was better than now. The Sandcrabs are not ranked Number 5 in state by the AP Poll for nothing, now open your eyes and get your facts straight and I dont want to hear any smack talk about DIV 1 being better, this is DIV 11 and its the Calhoun Sandcrabs that we are talking about here.

November 11, 2011 at 8:46 a.m. ( | suggest removal )

RedRage00 says...

lol, looks like their first 10-0 season and first outright district title has gotten to Crab fans heads. You're nothing great. Good for coastal bend standards, but that's it. We'll see when you meet a real team. Division 2(Region 4) is wide open for the taking and you have a good chance to win Region 4 but it's all over when you meet the Region 3 Champ....Brehnam, Manvil, and La Marque are all better teams than Calhoun. A good team will stop Calhoun's run game. That's all you have. You can't pass for jack. You only have like 200 yards passing all season. Too bad Calhoun can't be back in Region 3 where it would have been 1 and done like El Campo most years.

Weren't you ranked #8 a few seasons ago? How did that work out for you? Rankings don't mean squat. It's water cooler talk. Your #5 ranking is grossly overrated. People voting for Calhoun should be taken out back and shot.

So what was the outcome of that 2 year old Tivy game? I'm still having trouble getting past those 8 TD passes Boerne Champion put up last year.

I don't know much about Redrage... He lived in Dallas, now I think he's in Houston somewhere... I have to assume he was a Stingaree at one point.

As for me, I can't stand it when someone is making outrageous claims as to the quality of a football team. Ya'll know anyone like that?

Lake Travis is an "easy to go to" example of greatness. Ten years ago they were a 0-10 team. Now look at them. They've been there and done it all. 4 years in a row and most likely soon to be 5. If you talk to them, they don't act like ignorant fools bragging on something like they are special. Their talk is done on the field.

I've had relatives (mvp quality) that played for Calhoun and I am enjoying the fact that we have a pretty darn good team in this district. But when I hear outrageous claims I seem to want to argue.

Redrage00 is hilarious and well, usually right, that's why I sort of agree with him. LOL!

Go get em crabs!!! You will win easily tonight!!!

November 11, 2011 at 3:43 p.m. ( | suggest removal )

jasonbourne says...

As a side note, the Lake Travis family is just as emotional about the game as everyone else. Last year they had a player (Legasse I think) miss the entire season because of a broken leg in the first game of the season. Great player this kid. Anyway, in the Victoria East playoff game this LeGasse kids first game back, he makes a great catch in the end zone for a score.

Of course their crowd goes nuts because this kid trained very hard to make it back to the playoffs.

What amazed me was their fans, players, coaches were all crying! Thats right, crying at the site of this kid making it back and helping their team. One of the greatest teams Texas has ever seen and their fans, players and coaches are all sobbing with joy because one of their team members worked his tail off and they all knew it.

I always figured the LT folks were a bunch of wealthy snobs and after a 4 or 5 years of talking to them and visiting in the stands, they just aren't... except maybe for the wealthy part. They are just like everyone else that loves High School football.

Just another reason I like High School football. You can sit in the stands and scream profanities at the coaches & refs, or you can take the jasonbourne path and cheer successes.

Damn this is a great sport!!!

Calhoun will smoke Edcouch-Elsa and then Calhoun will finally play a football team that can test them. You've had a fun season Slappy, Playing easy teams and putting up big numbers. I'm not saying Calhouns season is over, I'm just really wanting to see them on the field with another talented team.

Dear Jason, Very good, anyway, you listen hear real close now, ok, Manvel just beat El Campo last night by 8 or 9 points and I think that Manvel can beat Brenham, so, if El Campo can play them a very good game then Port Lavaca Calhoun Sandcrabs can even do better than that, and remember a few (3 or 4) years ago the Sandcrabs played Ker Tivy and we had them at 17 to 0 at half against a remarkable quarterback and team that is not as good now as they were that year, we lost by seven that night, Now follow me dear, you see, go back and look at the scores of Tivy then and Tivy now and you will see they are not as good now as then, Now Port Lavaca Calhoun Sandcrabs are better now than than then as we have four 1000 yards rushers now this year, (4), That is a record, now, I think, and our defense is much better now than then. Yes, we have only played one good ranked team, as Calallen, and yes, they lost their quarterback that night, but, who knocked him out of the game, yep, you got it (THE MIGHTY SANDCRABS), YEP, THATS IT, THEY ARE THE ONES,.nOW, YOU SAY we cant throw the ball, i beg to differ with you, we throw the ball when we have to and cannot run, why throw when they cannot stop the run, (good queston). Remember back a few years ago we played Austin Mccallum and we won the game with the pass, now go back and do your research, ok, Just compare the scores of all the teams that RED RAGE 00 says are good last year with this years scores and you will see all are not as good as last year compared to the same with the Mighty Port Lavaca Calhoun Sandcrabs. Now RED RAGE OO what you got to say about that and please dont bring DIV 1 into this, this is DIV 2 and by the way LAKE TRAVIS IS NOT AS GOOD AS THEY WERE LAST YEAR AND i WILL BRING THAT INTO THIS div 2 CONVERSATION. You have not other team that averages over 400 to over 500 yards a game playing their first string only three quarters of the game in Class 4A Div II. Now, thank you, and bye for now.

Why are you bringing up games from several years ago? That has no relevance to 2011. lol

I guess because you beat McCallum several years ago with the pass that is somehow supposed to help you win in 2011? LMAO...another clueless Calhoun fan. I forget McCallum is a powerhouse team too. lmao

I believe Danrut posted the stats for Calhoun and yall only have like 200 or so yards passing. When you meet a team that can stop your run game it's over.

I can't believe you're sitting here talking about Brenham, Manvil, and El Campo like Calhoun is better than those teams. You really need to get a damn clue.

Red Rage 00, enough is enough, I know what Iam talking about, I am living history and I can look and see from the past to now, you cannot, I see the past and the now and I say the Calhoun Sandcrabs if they play hard, do not loose their composure, and stay focused then they can beat anyone in the STATE OF TEXAS, as I know, as I am a graduate of the year of 1974 and I have lived history and I just know, and you will just have to accept the I know for now and you will learn your lessons later as you will see. The stupid Sandcrabs as you say are not stupid at all and will win until the State Playoffs as I will then leave it up to them, not me, not you, not anyone, they alone make the decision where they want to be and end up. So take that with your next bowl of icecream.

Yea, Red, Danrut is a fine person, and you look at those passing yards and see how many touchdowns we had with them. Now go eat some icecream as that is what little kids like most.

Well, Well, Well, Jason dear, its the first time that I agree with you, your not such a bad person after all, its just that icecream man. Now, Boy, you might want to re-write your first sentence as you started with very few IQ Points and please do not bring politics up again as that would make this blog way way way to long, boring and just not worth the time.

Several good games out there this week. LT/SV will be really good. Another game I believe will be closer than most think is the Vandegrift/KT game. Calhoun/EE winner gets the winner of this one. I am actually picking this game as my "Upset game of the week".

Rumor has it if KT and PLC win, it's a Dome game at 7:30 pm Friday. Vandegrift has yet to confirm they would accept this, but heard it may be a done deal with all 4 teams involved, 2 winners will play in Dome on Friday night. Normally you would not look this far ahead, but with no school next week here in CCISD, plans had to be made this week for buses, etc. I am really pumped at the opportunity of Brooks and the younger kids to get to play in the Dome.

Thanks for the info danrut, I'm always struggling over the weekend to get game location confirmations until the following Monday or Tuesday.

Anything you get please feel free to post it, I'll take the info from you even if it's just a hot rumor. Would love to go watch Calhoun in the Alamodome again.

Yes, was a wake up call for the Calhoun Sandcrabs and their coaches. EE came in to play a game and they were ready, as for the Sandcrabs, they just needed a quarter to wake up a little, but we cannot give another team that much cushion. If our defense had not stepped it up like they did from the end of the 1st qtr we could have lost this game. Now our offense, well, HOUSTON WE GOT A PROBLEM, what is the problem with the show of lack of eagerness, aggressiveness, and walking onto the field to the huddle or the line of scrimmage when we are on offense? Also noticed a little bad attitude with a few of the backs at times. I am sure all these little minor things will be addressed and taken care of in practice this next week.

Now for the fans, you turned out again in great numbers and you show the pride of the Port Lavaca Calhoun Sandcrabs. But, why do the young men out on the field have to look up into the stands and try to get you motivated and make some noise? Our players should not ever have to look up to our fans and ask for noise and support, that should be a given.

Well enough on criticism, we are a better team and support base than that, by the way we are ranked No. 5 in the State Of Texas. Wake up Sandcrabs, make some changes or the next game will be your last for this year.

Slapstick you ran your mouth all season, and if anyone even dared suggest that Calhoun would lose you would go in attack mode. Don't get mad when you have to face up to your big mouth, you even claimed that Calhoun could hang with Lake Travis. Now take the ribbing and salt in the wound that you deserve.
