FEEDBACK

All I could think of when I saw the Industrial offense take the field for the first time last Friday was, “Wow that O-Line must be having fun.” The Cobra offense opened the game against Shiner on an eight minute, 84-yard, 16 play-scoring drive on all running plays. As a former high school offensive lineman, I couldn’t help but think how fun it must’ve been to play on that drive.
Just you and a defensive lineman or linebacker going mano-a-mano up front may the best man go unnoticed at the bottom of the pile on every play.
I had more fun doing that in high school than dropping back and catching speedy defensive ends on passing plays.
With the success of the spread and zone read in college trickling down to the high school ranks, I seen a decline in this style of football in the last few years. Yep, three yards and a cloud of dust or in the case of field turf cloud of tiny black rubber pellets. It’s not the most exciting style of football to watch from the stands, unless you’re an ex-offensive lineman.
