More is Less

While I respect the work the coaches, players and parents of all seven schools in TAPPS Div. I, District 2 put into playing and supporting these teams throughout the season, too many teams get in.
The importance of district play is diluted when all you have to do is win one game against the last place team in your district to clinch a playoff spot.
For example the St. Joseph Flyers are locked into the no. 5 spot in the playoffs and are pretty much locked into that spot since they have a tiebreaker over Brownsville St. Joseph and are behind San Antonio Antonian for the no. 4 seed with Antonian holding the tiebreaker.
Under the UIL format only three or four teams advance to the playoffs, depending on the class. This makes for a more climactic home stretch of the season where fans cheer for their district rivals as much as their own team.
I understand that football is a crazy game and who’s to say a no. 6 team from District 2 can’t get hot and win a state championship, but in a sport where you only get 10 regular season games per year why decrease the importance of those games?

If you look at the brackets they do it this way because their are so few teams in Division 1. If it wasnt done this way for Division1 in TAPPS all you would have to do was win 1 game and then you would be in the state tournament. In football wether it be TAPPS or UIL, many teams make the playoffs with losing district records. West will make the playoffs with only 2 district games. Its just the way it is.

After reading all the comments today and some from earlier i notice that the only time people get angry when something is said about the victoria teams people only get mad at the people who says thing about east. go ahead and look at the post on west football profile.
